Butterscotch Sauce
This sauce is perfect for drizzling over ice cream, cakes, pancakes, or even as a dip for apple slices!
Ingredients
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1 cup brown sugar (light or dark, packed)
1 cup heavy cream
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Directions
Melt the butter:
In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
Add the sugar:
Stir in the brown sugar until it’s fully dissolved and starts to bubble, about 2 minutes.
Add the cream and salt:
Slowly pour in the heavy cream while stirring. Add the salt and mix well.
Simmer and thicken:
Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat to low. Simmer for 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
Add vanilla:
Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
Cool slightly:
Let the sauce cool for a few minutes before using. It will thicken further as it cools.
Store in an airtight container or jar in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Reheat gently before serving.
