Garlic Edamame
We had this at a sushi restaurant, and the waiter kindly gave me the ingredients! The sauce......
Ingredients
1 lb (450g) edamame (in the pod, frozen or fresh)
2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon sesame oil
4 cloves garlic, minced
1-2 tablespoons sambal oelek (adjust to taste)
1 teaspoon soy sauce
Sea salt, to taste
Red pepper flakes (optional, for extra heat)
Toasted sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
Directions
Cook the Edamame:
If using frozen edamame, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the edamame and cook for about 5 minutes, or until they are tender. Drain and set aside.
If using fresh edamame, cook them in boiling water for about 3-5 minutes, then drain and set aside.
Prepare the Garlic and Sambal:
In a large skillet or wok, melt the butter over medium heat.
Add the sesame oil to the skillet and heat it up with the butter.
Add the minced garlic and sauté until it becomes fragrant and lightly golden, about 1-2 minutes. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
Add the sambal oelek to the skillet and stir well to combine with the garlic and butter-sesame oil mixture.
Combine:
Add the cooked edamame to the skillet with the garlic-sambal butter mixture.
Drizzle with soy sauce and toss everything together until the edamame is well coated and heated through, about 2-3 minutes.
Season:
Season with sea salt to taste. If you like a bit of extra heat, sprinkle with red pepper flakes.
Serve:
Transfer the garlic sambal butter edamame to a serving bowl.
Garnish with toasted sesame seeds, if using.
Adjust the amount of sambal oelek to your spice preference.
For extra flavor, you can also add a squeeze of fresh lime juice before serving.
Serve as a side dish, appetizer, or snack.
